OSHA Silica Standard Workshop

 

The new OSHA silica standard has been effect for over a year now, but many companies are still in the dark on how to implement the standard in the field. The BX OSHA Silica Standard Workshop will provide clarity on how to apply silica control tactics on the job.

Course instructor, Michael Lorms (RiskControl360°) along with representatives from the Ohio BWC Division of Safety and Hygiene, Jendco Safety Supply and Hilti Tools will provide “hands-on” demonstrations of testing supplies and exposure-limiting tools, as well as offer resources for complying with the new standard.

Rigging and Signaling Certification

Under the standard, OSHA requires a competent rigging and signaling person. Keep your employees up-to-date with current requirements and techniques in this one-day classroom and “hands-on” mock-lift training.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400 and will be issued a “Qualified Rigging and Signaling” card, these cards are valid for 5 years as per OSHA requirements.

This training is hands-on and includes:
  • Identification of hand, radio, and horn crane signals.
  • Demonstration of the necessary aspects of a safe lift including all aspects of a pre-lift crane meeting including related documentation.
  • Demonstration of how to inspect, evaluate and document the condition of various types of rigging, hardware and slings.
  • Identification of various sling and rigging configurations, including their limitations and how to compute imposed sling loads at various angles.
  • Instruction on how to accurately estimate the weight of a load, approximate center of gravity, etc.
  • Evaluate travel path and fall zones of an overhead lift operation determining proper load control methods and emergency egress routes.
  • Pre-testing and post-testing evaluations.
  • Hands-on examination of rigging slings and hardware.
  • Evaluation of an actual crane and planning a mock lift.

Trainer Course for Construction

WVU Safety and Health Extension LogoThis course is designed for individuals interested in teaching the OSHA 10- and 30-Hour construction safety and health outreach program to their employees. Special emphasis is placed on required topics in the OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Training Courses as well as on those that are most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide.

Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. As part of the successful completion of the course, you must prepare and present an assigned topic, as well as successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA #510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation may be substituted for two (2) years of work related experience.

WVU Safety and Health Extension LogoThis course is designed for personnel in the private sector who have completed the OSHA 500 Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and who are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. Rigging and Signaling Certification

Under the standard, OSHA requires a competent rigging and signaling person. Keep your employees up-to-date with current requirements and techniques in this one-day classroom and “hands-on” mock-lift training.

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to comply with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400 and will be issued a “Qualified Rigging and Signaling” card, these cards are valid for 5 years as per OSHA requirements.

This training is hands-on and includes:

  • Identification of hand, radio, and horn crane signals.
  • Demonstration of the necessary aspects of a safe lift including all aspects of a pre-lift crane meeting including related documentation.
  • Demonstration of how to inspect, evaluate and document the condition of various types of rigging, hardware and slings.
  • Identification of various sling and rigging configurations, including their limitations and how to compute imposed sling loads at various angles.
  • Instruction on how to accurately estimate the weight of a load, approximate center of gravity, etc.

Standard First-Aid/CPR/AED

Certified by the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI), this course will teach you to provide first-responder care for injuries and illnesses, with topics such as:

  • Rescue breathing
  • CPR
  • Heart attacks
  • Bandaging and splints
  • Proper AED use

When you complete the class, you will receive one certification card from ECSI for first aid, CPR and AED valid for two years.

Ohio Mechanics Lien Law: The Hows and Whys of the Paperwork

Should you provide a Notice of Commencement of Furnishing? If so, when? Timelines for the processes involved in preserving lien rights can be complicated. Industry employees involved in the complicated lien law process need to know the requirements under the law.
