Creating a Culture of Safety

To make real improvements on your company’s safety records, you must first create a culture of openness and trust.

Jim Negron, executive vice president (Corna Kokosing Construction Co.) and Dr. Steven Anderson, integrated leader (Integrated Leadership Systems) will discuss how they created a plan for Corna Kokosing to improve their safety record. They will also share how the company’s leadership worked together to create a culture of safety that led to discussions of “near misses.” They will also explain how using quarterly audits with upper management provided the metrics necessary to achieve a safer culture.

The workshop will also include a panel discussion with BX Safety Award Winners John Igel, president (George J. Igel & Co., Inc.) and Randy Sleeper, CEO (Bruner Corp.) in addition to the presenters. These industry leaders will share how they incorporated best safety culture practices in their companies and answer attendees’ questions.

Jan. LEED Meeting: Schematic Energy Modeling

In 2006, Architecture 2030 issued the 2030 Challenge, a breakthrough vision that calls for all new buildings, developments and major renovations to be carbon-neutral by 2030. Unfortunately, even with Integrated Design practices, energy is frequently an afterthought, and usage isn’t quantified until teams are well into the design process.

This meeting will introduce you to the tools and resources that are now available to begin quantifying energy even in the early stages of design.

Whether you’re an architect, an engineer or a builder implementing the plan, Joshua Lloyd, the lead technical account manager for AEP Ohio’s New Construction Energy Efficiency Incentive program, will introduce you to some of the low/no cost software available for those early energy studies and you’ll learn what an energy model can and cannot do.
