If you’re the human resources manager at your company, or if HR is just one of the many hats you wear, the HR Group is for BX members like you.

Our November meeting will be held at Thomas & Marker Construction Co. and we'll discuss the top HR topics from 2017 and look ahead to what’s expected next year.

The new BX healthcare cooperative, officially called a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) will help BX member firms significantly reduce their health care costs. The new plan will be insured by United Healthcare (UHC) and will be fully insured for participating member companies.

125th BX Annual Meeting

The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio cordially invites members and their guests to attend its 125th Annual Meeting!

A highlight of the evening will be the special audio-visual presentation, which will review the past year at the BX, as well as spotlight the Cornerstone Award recipient, the President's Award Winner, Safety Award winners and Craftsmanship Award winners.

Concluding the evening is a BX tradition "The Great Turkey Giveaway." This tradition got its start back in the 1930s, when BX members brought a few live birds to the Annual Meeting as door prizes. Today, hundreds of turkeys, now frozen, are raffled off to meeting guests.

Creating a Culture of Safety

To make real improvements on your company’s safety records, you must first create a culture of openness and trust.

Jim Negron, executive vice president (Corna Kokosing Construction Co.) and Dr. Steven Anderson, integrated leader (Integrated Leadership Systems) will discuss how they created a plan for Corna Kokosing to improve their safety record. They will also share how the company’s leadership worked together to create a culture of safety that led to discussions of “near misses.” They will also explain how using quarterly audits with upper management provided the metrics necessary to achieve a safer culture.

The workshop will also include a panel discussion with BX Safety Award Winners John Igel, president (George J. Igel & Co., Inc.) and Randy Sleeper, CEO (Bruner Corp.) in addition to the presenters. These industry leaders will share how they incorporated best safety culture practices in their companies and answer attendees’ questions.

Certified by the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI), this course will teach you to provide first-responder care for injuries and illnesses, with topics such as rescue breathing, CPR, heart attacks, bandaging and splints and AED use. When you complete the class, you will receive one certification card from the Emergency Care and Safety Institute for first aid, CPR and AED valid for two years.

Ohio Mechanics Lien Law: The Hows and Whys of the Paperwork

Learn the purpose of the lien law, how it applies to you, and the process for preserving lien rights.  Each participant will receive a packet of sample lien forms along with the handouts.

This course is a great resource for entry-level employees. They will learn about the deadly hazards concerning construction, including: fall protection, electrical safety, scaffolding and trenching.
